All of my friends have been telling me that Crazy Rich Asians is the first real rom-com since 'The Proposal'. My husband and I finally watched this last night and we loved it!
First of all, we were waiting for the movie to come to Redbox instead of going to the movie theater. This made me think about the reason why we waited instead of going to a movie theater. The purpose my husband and I use media like movies are to spend time together.
While we sometimes go on a date night to the movie theater, we prefer at home date nights because we can multi-task doing homework or eating our favorite homemade dinner. We also love being able to pause movies to talk during the movie which is not acceptable in the movie theater.
One of my favorite things about the movie is the introduction to a new country and culture. It might not be the most accurate depiction of this country or culture, but it was cool to see a romantic comedy with different characters than the usual white characters. I also thought it was powerful how the women in this movie were very strong, powerful and confident.
I also loved how they included asian music in its various forms. I have only every heard of K-POP and never liked any of the K-POP I have heard. I was so surprised that I liked so much of the music even though it was in a different language.
